Court Orders Awka South Mayor to Unseal Widower’s Home
An Anambra State High Court in Awka has ordered Awka South Mayor Chinedu Okafor and the local government security committee to unseal the home of Chukwujekwu Sylvester Anaekwe in Okpuno, pending the hearing of his fundamental-rights suit. Anaekwe alleged that the mayor, security operatives and others invaded his home, removed valuables and detained him for eight days. He also alleged that his children were left without shelter after the property was sealed. The court restrained the respondents from further action, threats, arrest or detention of Anaekwe over the dispute. The substantive case was adjourned until December 7, 2026. Anaekwe denied an allegation that he was preparing a get-rich-quick pot for criminals, saying a later search of his home found nothing incriminating.
