DSS Opposes Sowore’s Bid to Compel DG Ajayi’s Testimony in Cybercrime Trial
The prosecution has opposed Omoyele Sowore’s request to compel Department of State Services Director-General Oluwatosin Ajayi to personally testify in his ongoing cybercrime trial. At Friday’s hearing, prosecution counsel Akinlolu Kehinde argued that another qualified DSS officer could testify on Ajayi’s behalf. He said the DSS chief acted only in an official capacity and could not reasonably attend every case involving the agency. Sowore’s lawyer, Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika, insisted that Ajayi must appear because the subpoena was issued in his name. The defence said a previous DSS witness indicated that some questions could only be answered by the Director-General. Justice Mohammed Umar adjourned the case until October 6, 2026, to decide whether Ajayi can be compelled to testify personally. Sowore is facing charges linked to social-media posts made in August 2025.
