Kogi High Court Sentences Man to Death for Neighbour’s Kidnap and Murder

A Kogi State High Court has sentenced Jibrin Halilu to death after finding him guilty of kidnapping and murdering his neighbour, the proprietor of Ever Ready Hotel in Obajana. Halilu and accomplices abducted Uche Andrew Offo, demanded a N2.5 million ransom and killed him despite receiving payment. He was arrested by the DSS in December 2025 and linked to another N5 million ransom kidnapping in Lokoja. This ruling follows a death sentence handed to an arms courier in Katsina and last week’s verdict in Abuja where four men were condemned for the 2022 Owo church terrorist attack. Authorities say these sentences underscore that kidnapping and terror suspects will face the full weight of the law.
