Police Arrest Two Abuja Doctors, Others Over Alleged ₦8.7m Organ-Harvesting Scheme

Police Arrest Two Abuja Doctors, Others Over Alleged ₦8.7m Organ-Harvesting Scheme

Police have arrested two doctors linked to Wellington Hospital in Life Camp, Abuja, and two other suspects over an alleged illegal organ-harvesting scheme involving young people from Nasarawa State. The suspects were arrested during a Special Tactical Squad sting operation on 19 August 2026 in Auta Balifi, Karu LGA. Police said the case involves allegations that vulnerable young people were recruited under false pretences and taken to Abuja for kidney removal. One suspect allegedly told investigators that a 22-year-old victim was lured to the hospital in April 2026 and paid $1,250, said to be about ₦1.7 million, after his kidney was harvested. Another alleged victim said he was paid ₦7 million after a similar procedure in 2022. Police also alleged that documents, including NIN records, birth certificates, affidavits and consent letters, were forged to facilitate the scheme. Investigations are continuing as officers seek other suspected accomplices.
