NAPTIP: Three Workers Arrested Over Alleged Attempt to Sell Employer’s Two-Year-Old Child in Cross River

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) says three workers were arrested in Ogoja, Cross River State, over an alleged attempt to traffic their employer’s two-year-old child. NAPTIP said the suspects allegedly took the child from Ogberia Ochoro community and were trying to move him to another location for sale. They reportedly claimed they acted after working for about three months without being paid. The employer denied owing them wages, stating that only the salary for August was outstanding and the month had not ended. A farmer reportedly became suspicious after seeing the group with the child, raised an alarm, and the suspects were arrested after passing through about four communities. Investigations are ongoing. NAPTIP said the suspects’ ages must also be confirmed, as they gave ages different from those recorded by the community.
