Peter Obi: Tinubu Has Tried His Best on Insecurity — But Is It Enough?

Former Anambra State governor Peter Obi has backed Pastor Enoch Adeboye’s defence of President Bola Tinubu’s security efforts. Speaking in an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Obi acknowledged that Tinubu had “tried his best” to tackle the country’s security challenges. He said Adeboye, a respected religious leader, was right to defend the president against accusations of inaction. However, Obi questioned whether those efforts alone were sufficient. He argued that effective leadership demands competence, capacity, compassion, commitment and character to drive real change in Nigeria’s security landscape. Obi added that President Tinubu, now visibly fatigued by office, “needs to go home and rest.” Adeboye had earlier made similar remarks at a gala event in Washington, D.C., noting that a commander-in-chief fulfills his duty by issuing orders, not by taking part in operations himself.

Prioritise community policing and improved intelligence sharing across states; those steps could reduce response times and deter criminal networks.
