Baba-Ahmed Says Buhari Resisted Tinubu’s Presidency, Urges Opposition Coalition for 2027
PRP National Chairman Hakeem Baba-Ahmed has claimed that former President Muhammadu Buhari resisted pressure to support Bola Tinubu’s presidential ambition because he saw it as harmful to Nigeria. Speaking at a Northern Elders Forum summit, Baba-Ahmed criticised Tinubu’s handling of the economy and said the administration had worsened hardship for many Nigerians. He also questioned the “Emilokan” slogan used during the 2023 election campaign, arguing that the presidency should not be treated as an entitlement. He urged Nigerians to resist Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027 and said opposition parties were working towards a coalition to challenge the president. Tinubu’s supporters maintain that his removal of the petrol subsidy and foreign-exchange reforms are necessary measures to stabilise the economy, despite the resulting rise in living costs.
