Peter Obi Pledges Ibom Deep Seaport Construction if Elected President
Peter Obi says his administration would begin construction of the long-delayed Ibom Deep Seaport in Akwa Ibom if he is elected president in 2027. He also pledged to upgrade ports in Warri, Port Harcourt and Calabar, while proposing a new port in Bayelsa State. The proposed Ibom project, also known as the Ibaka Deep Seaport, has featured in several presidential campaign promises over the years. President Bola Tinubu made a similar pledge during the 2023 campaign and has since given assurances to Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno. However, the project has yet to begin, and Obi did not provide a timeline, funding plan or implementation framework for his proposal.
