Greek Students and Workers Protest Rising Living Costs and Education Funding
Trade unions and student groups in Greece staged a nationwide strike and protests over rising living costs and calls for greater investment in public education. Students pitched tents outside the Greek parliament in Athens. They are demanding lower rents, higher housing subsidies, more student accommodation and additional teaching staff. Public-sector workers also joined walkouts after a call by the ADEDY trade union confederation. Authorities deployed about 3,000 police officers in Athens to prevent unrest during the demonstrations.
