Kaduna Court Jails Woman for Five Years Over 500 Rounds of AK-47 Ammunition

A Kaduna High Court has sentenced Aisha Abubakar to five years in prison after finding her guilty of unlawfully possessing 500 rounds of live AK-47 ammunition allegedly intended for bandits in Katsina State. Justice John Ambi delivered the judgment on October 15, 2026, ruling that the prosecution proved the charge under Section 393 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law, 2017. The court said the ammunition could have caused severe harm if it had not been intercepted. The judge ordered that the five-year sentence should begin from the date Abubakar was first detained under the remand order.
