Osun Sets Up Panels to Probe Ikire Motor Park Killings and Pre-Election Violence
The Osun State Government has inaugurated two panels of inquiry to investigate the August 24 violence at Naira and Kobo Junction Motor Park in Ikire and reported political violence before the August 15 governorship election. The coroner’s inquest will examine the deaths of commercial driver Saheed Akinrole and another unidentified passenger, injuries recorded during the incident, the possible use of weapons, and whether those involved acted within the law. A separate commission, chaired by retired Justice A.B. Abdulkareem, will investigate alleged killings, assaults, intimidation, arson, property destruction and electoral disruption linked to the pre-election period. Both panels may recommend prosecutions, disciplinary action, compensation for victims and measures to prevent further violence.
