Wike: Tinubu Cannot Dictate How States Spend Subsidy Savings

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike says President Bola Tinubu lacks the constitutional authority to direct state governments and local councils on how to spend their increased allocations following fuel subsidy removal. Speaking in Port Harcourt, Wike said all three tiers of government are independent. He argued that citizens should demand transparency from state and local governments, rather than blame the Federal Government alone for the hardship linked to subsidy removal. Wike said higher federal allocations have improved many states’ ability to pay salaries, pensions and fund projects. He also praised Tinubu for removing the subsidy, saying state governments must now account for the additional funds they receive.
