FG Approves Modernisation of Onne, Delta, Calabar and Rivers Ports

The Federal Government has approved the modernisation of the Onne, Rivers, Delta and Calabar ports to improve cargo handling, trade facilitation and competitiveness. The approval expands the port upgrade programme beyond Lagos, where Apapa and Tin Can Island ports had earlier been cleared for modernisation. The government says better-equipped eastern ports will help ease cargo congestion in Lagos and provide more efficient gateways for international trade. The planned upgrades are expected to increase handling capacity, shorten vessel turnaround time and lower logistics costs. They form part of a wider maritime strategy that includes proposed deep seaports and improved links between ports, roads, rail and inland waterways.
