South-East Assembly Speakers Meet in Awka to Push Common Legislative Standards
Speakers of the five South-East State Houses of Assembly met in Awka, Anambra State, to discuss closer legislative cooperation and common professional standards for lawmaking. The meeting focused on reviewing laws, sharing legislative research, strengthening committee systems and improving staff development across the region. Participants said standardisation should support best practices without removing the independence of each state assembly. The conference also examined post-enactment reviews and the role of state legislatures in developing new state police laws. Delegates expressed hope that the discussions would lead to practical recommendations for more effective oversight and legislative administration in the South-East.
