Anambra Still Repaying Loans From Obi and Obiano Administrations, Finance Commissioner Says
The Anambra State Government says it is still repaying loans obtained during the administrations of former governors Peter Obi and Willie Obiano. Finance Commissioner Izuchukwu Okafor said monthly deductions are made from the state’s federal allocations to settle inherited obligations, including external facilities linked to development lenders. He said the Soludo administration has not taken commercial bank loans since it assumed office. Okafor said the government has reduced Anambra’s debt profile by more than 83 per cent and cleared several domestic obligations, including unpaid contracts, gratuity arrears and pension backlogs. He added that the state recently cleared an outstanding debt known as CAGS, creating more room for development projects.
