Court of Appeal Rejects EFCC Bid to Challenge Aisha Achimugu Account-Freezing Ruling
The Court of Appeal in Port Harcourt has dismissed the EFCC’s application for leave to appeal its earlier ruling on Aisha Achimugu’s bank accounts to the Supreme Court. The court held that the application lacked merit. The decision leaves in place the Court of Appeal’s July 22, 2026 judgment, which vacated an interim order freezing accounts linked to Achimugu and her companies. The appellate court had ruled that allowing an ex parte freezing order to run for more than 15 months was an abuse of court process. The case arose from the EFCC’s 2025 application to freeze the accounts during an investigation. Although the court set aside an earlier order for the reversal of N1.8 billion, it maintained that the prolonged account restrictions could not continue as an interim measure. Other forfeiture and fundamental-rights cases involving Achimugu remain separate proceedings.
