IGP Orders Dismissal and Prosecution of Officers Over Effurun Shooting

IGP Orders Dismissal and Prosecution of Officers Over Effurun Shooting

The Inspector-General of Police has directed the dismissal of officers involved in the April 26 fatal shooting of a civilian in Effurun, Delta State. He called the act a criminal violation of police regulations. He identified Assistant Superintendent of Police Nuhu Usman as the principal officer responsible. All personnel connected to the incident have been transferred to Abuja for an impartial inquiry. A Force Disciplinary Committee reviewed senior officers while junior staff faced an Orderly Room Trial. The investigation found breaches of Force Order 247 on firearms use and other procedures. The IGP affirmed that no suspicion justifies unlawful killing. He extended condolences to the family of the deceased and vowed that after dismissal is ratified, the officers would face prosecution. “Every officer will be held accountable under the law,” he stated.
