Ogun, NNPC Reopen Talks on Long-Delayed Olokola LNG Project
Ogun State and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited have begun talks to revive the long-delayed Olokola LNG project in Ogun Waterside. The proposed facility is expected to form part of a wider coastal industrial corridor that includes the Gateway Deep Sea Port and the Blue Marine Special Economic Zone. Governor Dapo Abiodun said the project could supply gas to industries in the economic zone and support businesses across Ogun and the South-West. The state said it would work with NNPC on land acquisition, incentives and other requirements for the project. NNPC said it is reviewing the issues that stalled the project in the past. The company estimates it will need about 1,728 hectares for the LNG plant and related infrastructure, as well as 2.5 kilometres of Atlantic coastline for marine operations and up to three jetties. If completed, the project could strengthen gas supply, industrial production, maritime trade and job creation in Ogun’s coastal corridor.
