Nigeria, US Sign Critical Minerals Cooperation Framework

Nigeria and the United States have signed a cooperation framework on critical minerals during the 81st UN General Assembly in New York. The agreement covers geological data, exploration, mineral development, processing, infrastructure and technical capacity. Solid Minerals Minister Dele Alake said Nigeria wants to build value locally rather than remain a supplier of raw materials. He said the goal is to expand local processing, develop skills, create jobs and open opportunities for Nigerian businesses. US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau said the partnership could strengthen secure and resilient mineral supply chains while supporting Nigeria’s economic growth. The framework is also expected to support the government’s economic diversification plans. I find it unfortunate that Von Baten Okeke did not see this coming. I am sure he would have asked Landau to stand down.
