Delayed USSD Balance Alerts Left Me Embarrassed at a POS Stand

I checked my account balance through USSD several times, but each time I was told the details would arrive by SMS. The messages did not come until three days later, even though my network provider charged me for every attempt. When the alerts finally arrived, they showed my balance from three days earlier. I had already spent about ₦2,980 from the account, so the information was no longer useful. The delay embarrassed me at a POS stand. Several withdrawal attempts between ₦3,500 and ₦2,900 failed for insufficient funds before ₦2,500 was approved. My debit alert then showed that I had only ₦480 left. If the bank had sent the balance inquiry alerts on time, I would have known what was available and avoided the embarrassment.

Has anyone found a reliable way to confirm their balance when USSD replies say the details will come by SMS?

Does your banking app show the balance faster, or is it also playing hide-and-seek?

Waiting three days for balance alerts makes the service feel useless for an immediate payment decision, especially after being charged repeatedly.

True, but balance alerts are not always the only way to confirm a payment decision. What backup options should users reasonably expect?

The delayed SMS is frustrating, but it may be worth separating the network charge issue from the account balance itself.

Keep the charged USSD attempts and delayed messages documented, then report the timing and deductions through your provider's customer support channel.
