Nigeria Rescues 5,400 Trafficking Victims, Secures 26 Convictions in Three Years
Nigeria says it rescued, rehabilitated and reintegrated more than 5,400 survivors of human trafficking over the past three years. The country also recorded 26 convictions from 168 people investigated and prosecuted for trafficking-related offences. At a UN conference on organised crime in Vienna, Nigeria’s representative said trafficking, migrant smuggling, illicit firearms, terrorism and environmental crimes remain serious threats to security and development. Nigeria said it is strengthening victim protection, border intelligence, digital forensics and regional cooperation to disrupt criminal networks. It also called for better international evidence-sharing, extradition support and joint investigations.
