NPA Chief Warns Cyberattacks Could Disrupt Nigerian Ports and Trade
The Nigerian Ports Authority has warned that cyberattacks could disrupt cargo movement, halt port operations and threaten trade across Africa as ports adopt more digital systems and artificial intelligence. Speaking at the African Ports Conference in Casablanca, the NPA managing director cited cyber incidents in South Africa, Japan and Australia as examples of how attacks can interrupt supply chains for days. He said port digital platforms must be protected and backed by tested recovery plans. Nigeria is expanding its National Single Window and Port Community System to improve coordination among Customs, shipping lines, terminal operators and regulators. The NPA says secure digital infrastructure, staff training and stronger standards for connected partners are essential as it modernises Apapa and Tin Can Island ports.
