Kidnappers Strike Oyo School Hours After I Announced 2027 Presidential Run — Makinde

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde says the abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire came just hours after he declared his 2027 presidential bid. He noted that for seven years no such incident occurred in the state until the May 15 attack. The Presidency later confirmed all victims were rescued after 56 days in captivity. Security forces, including the military, DSS and police, led the joint operation. Eight suspected kidnappers were arrested and others neutralised, with no negotiation or exchange made. Governor Makinde thanked President Tinubu and security agencies for the successful rescue. He also welcomed directives to provide medical care and support for the freed pupils and teachers.
