Consumer Group Accuses NMDPRA of Failing to Stop Alleged Adulterated Fuel Imports

The Nigeria Energy Consumers Watch Initiative has accused the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority of failing to stop the alleged importation and sale of adulterated or substandard petroleum products. The group claimed that blended fuel imported from Dubai and other countries could damage vehicles and machinery, raise operating costs for businesses and worsen transportation expenses for consumers. It questioned why stronger action had not been taken against marketers allegedly involved. It urged NMDPRA to increase testing at ports, depots and filling stations, publish product-quality test results and sanction any marketer found to have breached fuel standards. The group also called on the Federal Government to investigate possible regulatory lapses.
