EFCC: Diezani’s UK Acquittal Does Not Void Nigerian Asset Forfeiture Orders

The EFCC has asked the Federal High Court in Abuja to dismiss Diezani Alison-Madueke’s bid to rely on her UK acquittal in challenging forfeiture orders on assets linked to her. The commission argued that the UK case was separate from the Nigerian forfeiture proceedings. It said the final orders under which the properties were sold remain valid and have not been set aside. Alison-Madueke maintains that she was not properly served and was denied an opportunity to contest the forfeitures. She is seeking an order directing the EFCC to recover properties allegedly sold to third parties. The court adjourned the matter until November 11 to hear pending applications.
