NITDA DG Urges AI Development That Empowers Nigerians as Creators
NITDA Director-General Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi has called for an inclusive approach to artificial intelligence that enables Nigerians to understand, shape and benefit from the technology. Speaking at a global dialogue on technology and sustainable development, he said access to AI should go beyond using digital products. Nigerians should also have the skills, representation and opportunity to create value with AI. He highlighted agriculture as an area where AI could help farmers access weather updates, soil information, crop guidance and market opportunities. He said Nigeria’s approach rests on connectivity, skills, computing capacity and support for local innovation. Abdullahi added that AI systems should reflect Nigerian data, languages and realities while complying with local laws. He urged governments and technology companies to invest in infrastructure, local talent and accountable AI systems.
