Chinese Investment and the Debate Over Competition in Lagos Markets
I believe Chinese investors should be free to invest in Lagos and Nigeria as long as they comply with trade laws and regulations. Lagos has a long history of commerce among the Awori, Ilaje, Ijebu and Egba people. Its markets have traditionally benefited from open trade, competition and innovation. In my view, local traders should respond to new competition by improving their businesses, building long-term value and finding better ways to serve customers. Calls to boycott Chinese imports may also hurt traders and consumers who depend on those goods.
