Ebonyi Candidates Reject Proposed ₦150m Campaign Billboard Fee Ahead of 2027 Polls
Residents and opposition candidates in Ebonyi State have criticised a proposed ₦150 million fee for presidential and governorship campaign billboards ahead of the 2027 elections. They argue that the charge could make it difficult for opposition parties to campaign in the state. The SDP governorship candidate, Kingsley Agbor, described the proposal as repressive and accused the state government of attempting to restrict political competition. Labour Party candidate Splendour Oko-Eze also said the fee could deepen anti-democratic practices and called for a fair political environment. A motion on regulating political posters and billboards was raised at the Ebonyi State House of Assembly. Critics say the proposal may trigger tension if it is applied selectively. The Assembly's spokesperson had not responded to requests for comment when the report was filed.
