Kaduna Couple Detained After Teen Stepson Dies in Beating Over PoS Dispute

A mother and her husband have been arrested in Kaduna State over the death of her teenage son from a previous marriage. The incident happened in Kurmin-Mashi on June 23, 2026, after the mother sent her stepson, Sadiq, to withdraw ₦5,000 from a PoS terminal. He made two withdrawals but returned with only ₦5,000. His stepfather, Sharhabil, confirmed the two withdrawals with the shop operator and then joined his wife in punishing the boy for dishonesty. Neighbours and a local cleric intervened but were unable to stop the severe beating. Sadiq was found dead the next morning. Police took his body to Yusuf Dantsoho Hospital for examination. The couple remains in custody as investigations continue.
