Can a New Nigerian Messaging App Still Break Through in 2026?
Someone advised me to stop spending my time and money on Nexa, get a job, and accept that the app will not succeed. They also called it “1960 WhatsApp” because I used AI to build it and started on free hosting. I laughed, but it raised a fair question. Must every new product begin with millions of naira, expensive servers, a large team and thousands of users? Or can someone start with the tools they have, release the product, listen to criticism and keep improving? I am choosing to build with what I have. Nexa is not perfect, and I do not claim that it is. But AI and free hosting are tools; they do not decide whether an idea is worth pursuing. Can a new Nigerian messaging platform still succeed in 2026, or is the market already closed to newcomers? I would genuinely like to hear your thoughts.
