Sowore’s Cyberbullying Trial Adjourned After Clash Between Lawyers

The cyberbullying trial of activist Omoyele Sowore was stalled at the Federal High Court in Abuja after a heated exchange between his lawyer, Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika, and prosecuting counsel Akinlolu Kehinde. The defence sought an adjournment, saying it had not received certified court documents needed to question a Department of State Services official who appeared under subpoena. Kehinde opposed the request and accused Sowore’s legal team of delaying the case. Tensions rose after Fusika called the prosecutor a “persecutor”. Justice Muhammed Umar cautioned him against further outbursts and noted that the defence had called only one witness since the prosecution closed its case. The matter was adjourned until September 20. The Federal Government is prosecuting Sowore on two cyberbullying counts linked to social media posts in which he allegedly called President Bola Tinubu a criminal. Sowore has pleaded not guilty.
