I Worry About the Long-Term Cost of Ethnic Politics in the South-West

I believe every major political decision carries consequences, whether positive or negative. That is why we must act carefully and consider how today’s choices may shape the future. Nigeria’s history shows how ethnic competition, exclusion and political miscalculation can create wounds that last for generations. In my view, the events surrounding the 1966 coup and the aftermath remain a warning about how the actions of a few can bring severe consequences for an entire region or ethnic group. I am concerned that the current political climate is deepening ethnic division. I worry that unquestioning support for political leaders, electoral malpractice and tribal rhetoric may eventually produce consequences that many people are not prepared for. We should demand fairness, accountability and national unity before these divisions become even harder to repair.
