INEC Chair Meets Google Civic Lead to Discuss AI and Nigeria’s 2027 Elections

INEC Chairman Prof. Joash Ojo Amupitan met with Google’s Global Lead for Civic Responsibility, David J. Lopez, in Ottawa, Canada. The meeting took place on September 11 during the Global Conference on Responsible AI and Elections. INEC’s Director of Information and Communication Technology, Dr Lawrence Bayode, also attended. The conference examined how artificial intelligence can support election administration while limiting risks such as misinformation and manipulation. The discussions come as Nigeria prepares for the 2027 general elections.
