Police Arrest Suspect After Gunmen Attack Finima Traditional Ruler, Residents

Rivers State Police Command has begun an investigation into an alleged gunmen attack on the Amadabo of Finima, HRH Dagogo Brown, during a cultural masquerade display at his palace in Bonny Local Government Area. The attack reportedly followed a dispute over cultural rites, masquerade displays and families’ rights to perform certain traditional activities. Several residents were said to have suffered gunshot wounds and machete cuts, while property was damaged. No deaths were recorded. Police spokesperson ASP Blessing Agabe said normalcy had been restored and one suspected gang member had been arrested. Security operatives have been deployed as investigations continue to identify and arrest other suspects. Bonny council chairman Abinye Pepple condemned the violence and called for an impartial investigation. Finima is located on Bonny Island, which hosts major national energy facilities including the Nigeria LNG plant and a crude oil export terminal.
