EKEDC Demands ₦112,606 ‘Loss of Revenue’ Fee After My Switch to Solar Power
I installed an 18kW solar system at my Lekki property and now rely on EKEDC mainly as a backup. Since my daytime electricity use dropped, EKEDC staff have visited repeatedly to check my prepaid meter. During one visit, they suspected that I had bypassed the meter because it was not recording consumption. I switched my inverter to use EKEDC supply for a few minutes, and the meter recorded usage normally. On 19 October 2026, EKEDC officials returned with a disconnection notice. They said my low consumption showed that the meter was faulty and demanded ₦112,606 as a “loss of revenue” payment, despite my having unused units on the meter. I maintain that the meter is working properly and that my lower consumption is because of my solar installation. I will file a formal complaint with the relevant electricity regulator if EKEDC disconnects my property.
