Ogun Retiree Says Wife Died Without Receiving Benefits Nine Months After Retirement
A retired head teacher in Sagamu says his wife, a former primary school head teacher, died on October 16 after waiting nine months for her retirement benefits from the Ogun State Government. He said she became a leading voice among affected retirees after discovering that her pension benefits had allegedly been under-calculated. According to him, she received no payment before her death despite participating in several peaceful rallies and appeals over the matter. He said the family spent more than ₦8 million on her treatment after she fell ill and underwent two surgeries. He has urged the state government to address retirees’ complaints over outstanding benefits and pension arrangements.
