Nnamdi Kanu Urges CJN, Appeal Court President to Fast-Track Terrorism Conviction Appeal
Detained IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu has written to the Chief Justice of Nigeria and the President of the Court of Appeal, asking that his appeals against his terrorism conviction and life sentences be scheduled urgently. Kanu’s family said the letters were sent over concerns about delays in hearing the appeal. He is challenging the Federal High Court judgment delivered in Abuja in November 2025, with his notice of appeal filed in February 2026. The appeal seeks to overturn the conviction and sentences, raising questions about the conduct of the trial and the legal basis of the judgment. Kanu remains in custody as the appellate process continues. The case has again drawn attention to the pace of appellate justice and the handling of politically sensitive national-security cases in Nigeria.
