NUPRC Seeks Faster Completion of Abuja Headquarters Project Stalled Since 2020
The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission has called for the speedy completion of its proposed Abuja headquarters, known as “The Barrel.” The 10-storey building in the Central Business District is expected to accommodate up to 1,000 workers. The project began in 2020 but remains unfinished. NUPRC currently operates from smaller offices in different parts of the Federal Capital Territory, which the commission says affects coordination and service delivery. During an inspection, the board chairman said the fragmented offices create a poor impression when international oil companies visit Nigeria for major investment discussions. NUPRC believes a completed headquarters would bring its departments together and improve engagement with upstream oil and gas investors.
