Ondo Magistrate Remands Man Over Alleged Rape of 16-Year-Old Apprentice
On May 1, 2026, an Akure Magistrate’s Court remanded 43-year-old AbdulAzeez Adebayo over the alleged rape of his wife’s 16-year-old apprentice. The victim had been training in fashion design and helping with chores at their home in Oda community, Akure South. While she was preparing a meal, the suspect reportedly lured her into a room and assaulted her against her will. In tears, the apprentice told Daily Trust that her father dropped her off that morning. She said the suspect admired her body, covered her mouth when she screamed, threatened her with a cutlass, and removed her underwear before the assault. Her father filed a complaint at Oda Police Station. The case was moved to the Gender-Based Violence Unit and brought before Magistrate Taiwo Lebi, who adjourned the hearing to May 8, 2026, and ordered the suspect detained at Olokuta Correctional Centre pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions.
