Wike Claims Peter Obi Has Lost His 2023 South-East Support Base
FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has claimed that Peter Obi no longer enjoys the level of support he received in the South-East during the 2023 presidential election. Speaking on a television programme, Wike said the political conditions that helped Obi perform strongly in 2023 had changed. He argued that Obi’s previous results should not be used to judge his strength ahead of the 2027 election. Wike said the G5 governors’ strategy during the 2023 election helped the Labour Party candidate in some areas by limiting support for PDP candidate Atiku Abubakar. He also dismissed rally attendance as a reliable measure of electoral strength and urged political actors to focus on the changing dynamics ahead of 2027.
