Nigeria has crude oil and local refineries, yet many citizens are still paying exorbitant prices for petrol. We are told that events around the Strait of Hormuz, thousands of miles away, are responsible for the hardship. Does that really add up? Petrol may be priced internationally, but most Nigerians do not earn international-level salaries. With widespread poverty, rising fuel costs are pushing ordinary families further into hardship. I was also told that the North is being hit especially hard. A recent visitor described seeing a young boy rush to lick the few drops left in an empty malt can. Nigeria’s hardship is becoming painful to witness. Please pity Nigerians.
