Five GAPOSA Students Abducted in Ogun Hostel Attack, Search Underway
Five students of Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade, Ogun State, were reportedly abducted after armed attackers invaded a private hostel on Paraga Road in Ipara-Remo on Wednesday night. The Students’ Union Government said the attack began at about 7:45 p.m. and lasted around 30 minutes. Gunshots were reportedly fired, but no deaths were recorded. Some students escaped through the ceiling, while five others were taken away. The union said the hostel’s isolated, bushy surroundings made it especially vulnerable. The school suspended Thursday’s examination following the attack, although subsequent examinations were expected to continue unless otherwise announced. Ogun police confirmed that an abduction occurred but said they were still verifying whether the victims were students. Security operatives have begun searching nearby forests. The incident has renewed concerns over persistent attacks on students in communities around the polytechnic, where previous robberies have reportedly led to deaths and loss of property.
