Afghan Women Describe Life Under Taliban Restrictions Five Years On

Five years after the Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan, women and girls continue to face severe limits on education, employment, movement and access to public spaces. Reports say the Taliban has issued roughly 200 decrees affecting women, including restrictions on girls’ secondary education, university attendance and many forms of work. UN Women says many Afghan women now leave their homes only once or twice each month. A 23-year-old embroiderer who returned from Iran says she cannot freely work or even go out to buy basic necessities.
