Bayo Oyagbola Launches Debut Poetry Collection Exploring Yoruba Heritage and the Search for Meaning

Lawyer and poet Bayo Oyagbola has launched his debut poetry collection, “The Sky’s Forgotten Prayer: Echoes of River, Drum and Heaven,” at the Metropolitan Club in Lagos. The collection brings together poems written over several years. It explores memory, mortality, spirituality, Yoruba culture and humanity’s continuing search for meaning. During a fireside conversation, Oyagbola discussed his use of Yoruba and English, as well as the connection between poetry, music and dance. The event also examined poems including “Man’s Sorrow Is Man” and “Why,” which reflect on humanity, time, consciousness and existence. Fellow poet Tade Ipadeola highlighted the book’s engagement with Nigerian cultural heritage, while family and friends performed readings from the collection.
