Wike Says Senior Lawyers, ‘External Forces’ Derailed Fubara’s Second-Term Bid
FCT Minister Nyesom Wike says he opposed Rivers Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s bid for a second term because of what he described as external forces and senior lawyers allegedly trying to undermine his political camp. Speaking at his monthly media chat in Abuja, Wike claimed that people who once opposed Fubara later became close to him and gave him misleading legal and political advice. He alleged that some actors wanted to take control of Rivers State for their own interests. Wike said the political crisis has cost Fubara more, arguing that the governor’s second-term ambition is now over. He nevertheless said his actions were motivated by concern for Fubara and urged supporters of both camps to embrace peace, unity and reconciliation in Rivers State.
