Lagos Inaugurates Permanent Dream Catchers Home for 100 Vulnerable Girls
Lagos State has inaugurated a permanent home for Dream Catchers Academy, a facility designed to shelter, educate and empower up to 100 vulnerable and orphaned girls. Representing Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Bolaji Ogunlende, said the project supports the state’s human-capital development agenda. He said keeping girls in school and protecting them from street life and early marriage was an investment in society’s future. The academy’s founder said the initiative began in 2014 when she accommodated five homeless girls in her apartment. The organisation says it has since supported more than 10,000 girls and families through education, care and outreach, while helping to rescue girls from child marriage. The founder appealed to the Lagos State Government to improve the access road leading to the facility, saying it would make movement easier for residents and the academy.
