Why ₦60,000 Earnings at Home May Outperform Japa Life Abroad — Daniel Bwala

On a recent broadcast of The Morayo Show, special presidential adviser Daniel Bwala argued that Nigerians earning ₦60,000 locally can be better off than those who japa five years ago. He noted that many degree holders abroad end up in care homes or warehouses, earning £2,600–£2,800 but spending most of it on rent, utilities and daily expenses. According to Bwala, this “modern-day slavery” leaves little for savings and forces many to juggle multiple jobs. Bwala contrasted this with local earners, who benefit from lower living costs and family support. I'm not convinced that a ₦60,000 salary covers long-term growth; five years abroad usually offers better skills and networking.

Consider balancing local work with remote freelancing opportunities abroad to maximise income and career development at the same time.
