Army and Police Debunk False Sokoto Massacre Report
The Nigerian Army and Sokoto State Police Command have denied social media claims that armed men killed more than 100 civilians and 11 security personnel in a Sokoto community. The viral post alleged that an attack occurred in a settlement called Garin Gobir Gindin and described it as a targeted ethnic assault. It also used an image of dead bodies to support the claim. Army spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba said no such attack or mass casualty incident occurred in Sokoto State. Police spokesperson Ahmed Rufa’i also said the incident did not take place in the state, adding that authorities have no record of a community with that name. The report highlights the danger of unverified posts that can fuel ethnic tension and public panic.
