ASUU-UNIPORT Begins Indefinite Strike Over Unpaid Salary Components
The Academic Staff Union of Universities at the University of Port Harcourt has begun an indefinite internal strike over the alleged non-payment of key salary components. The action started after a midnight deadline expired on September 15, 2026. The union said the dispute followed a December 2025 agreement on a revised pay structure for academic staff. ASUU-UNIPORT said the university implemented the Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance but did not pay other agreed salary components, even after the Federal Government reportedly released outstanding funds in May. The union has reactivated its Strike Monitoring Committee and warned members against violating the directive.
