Oyedele Says Investors Expect Tinubu’s Re-election, Warns Against Reversing Reforms
Taiwo Oyedele says domestic and international investors expect President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms to continue beyond the next election cycle. He said investors had raised concerns that electoral pressure could lead to the return of fuel subsidies or multiple exchange rates. According to Oyedele, reversing the reforms could trigger capital flight, put pressure on the naira and worsen household hardship. He said private investment had risen from about $300 million in 2023 to $6 billion in 2026, while net reserves had increased to over $45 billion. CBN Governor Olayemi Cardoso also stressed that policy consistency and transparency were necessary to sustain investor confidence. Separately, the African Democratic Congress asked the Federal Government to explain a reported $12.4 billion gap in Nigeria’s external accounts and disclose details of oil-backed loans and pledged crude commitments.
